Chapter 17: “Demystifying Classic Assessments Through a Polarity Lens”

My interests are broad with a primary focus on management consulting for organizations from highly diverse industries with an emphasis on leadership, organizational change management, strategic planning, organizational development, and executive coaching.

In addition to Polarity Thinking and PACT certification I am also certified in the standard fare of leadership development programs including but not limited to EQ-I 2.0, MBTI, StrengthsFinder, Leadership Circle 360, Leadership Challenge, and the LPI 360  assessment.  I am also a CMIT (Certified Master in Training) for The Leadership Challenge Workshop and the associated LPI (Leadership Practices Inventory) 360 assessment.

I am also a June 2018 Graduate of the George Mason University Leadership Coaching for Organizational Well-Being program and am ACC certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

I enjoyed a 23-year career with Amana Refrigeration moving up through the organization in the area of sales, sales management, and sales training.  When I retired, I was the Director of Training for Amana's primary manufacturing facility.

After retiring from industry, I spent 14 years in the Henry B. Tippie School of Management at the University of Iowa as Director of the Executive MBA program before retiring in 2011.

Early in my life I began what resulted in a 25-year career with the United States Navy, ultimately retiring at the rank of Navy Captain (O-6).  I spent seven years on active duty and 18 years as a Naval Air Reservist.  Along the way I served two Viet Nam tours as a search and rescue helicopter pilot and at the end of my career was the Commanding Officer of a Navy Helicopter anti-submarine warfare squadron based at Naval Air Station Alameda, California.

In 2011 I was appointed by the Secretary of Defense to a seven-year term on the Board of Visitors at the National Defense University in Washington D.C.   The Board advises, through the President of National Defense University, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on all aspects of advanced education and leadership development for both U.S. and allied forces senior leaders.

I earned my MBA from The University of Iowa and Bachelor of Science Degree from San Diego State University.
